I need to try to get back in blogging: a great way to keep all family / friends around the country updated, and just a great way to journal / documents what’s happening in life.

So, here is a brief re-cap, with pictures at the end. It may be kind of scatter brained, but just trying to get things written:

Lily has been asking many, many questions about everything lately. Tonight was all about the Earth and the sun. It started with asking why the sun goes away at night. So, I explained that the Earth turns, and when it turns around, we can’t see the sun. She was satisfied with this answer. Here are a few of her particular questions:

“Does the sun drink water?”

“Is there more than one Earth?”

“Is the Earth flat?”

“Why isn’t the Earth flat?”

“Who doesn’t live on the Earth?”

and there were many more…

She is growing up so fast. This week, we are going to check out a preschool for her (to start next year). She has never gone to school yet, but has attended a handful of classes through the parks and rec department (gymnastics, soccer, swimming, to name a few).

We have inherited Keillor (my family dog) for a spell while my parents are in the process of trying to move. Step 1) Sell their house in Corvallis. Step 2) Move to their Bend house. Having Keillor has been good, combined with the nice weather, because it has encouraged me to get out for more walks. Lily walks / rides her bike while we take Keillor down to the river to play/swim, or just for a walk around the block. It has been good for all of us to get out more after this long winter.

I am in my 32nd week and realized I don’t really have any pregnancy pictures. This pregnancy has really been just as easy as the last (only longer — so it seems). So far? No swollen feet and no scream-yourself-awake leg cramps. Though I have had a few leg cramps at night, they are nothing compared to when I was pregnant with Lily. Andy snapped a few pics on our walk the other day, they aren’t great, but I will post them when I am done rambling. About 2 more months of teaching school left for me, then it is time for summer and time to prepare for baby boy. Also, we toured the birthing center at the hospital this last weekend. I was not impressed. Don’t get me wrong, it is probably better than 99% of the birthing centers out there, it is just that the Corvallis birthing center at Good Sam is amazing. This is the only thing I have to compare it with, so it left me feeling “ehhh.” I am sure it will be fine when the times comes, my surroundings probably won’t be a concern.

Auntie Chelsea just came to visit. Allegiant Air just started offering flights from Oakland to Redmond and she got a round trip for around $70 (fees and all). It was great to spend the long weekend with her. Lily adores her. The whole week before her arrival, Lily was waking up every morning at 5am to see if it was the day that Auntie Chelsea was coming. 5am does not go over so well in our house.

Lily is still obsessed with Sleeping Beauty. She likes all of the scary parts. She constantly wants to ask people what their favorite part is and what their favorite scary part is.

Andy and I are slowly but surely trying to eat out and every restaurant in Bend For having been here less than 2 years, I think we have done fairly well! There are not many places left that we haven’t tried.

We have a few baby names in mind, but I have been afraid to commit and haven’t quite felt like we have found “the name.” So, I will leave you in waiting…

In an effort to be a better mom, I am trying to make Lily some friends. Since she doesn’t go to school, it is hard for her to make consistent friends. In the last week, I have asked 2 parents for phone numbers so we can arrange play dates. Tomorrow, she has a play date at the park with her friend Skylar (who we met last week). Not only do I get numbers, I follow through and make the call

Not sure what I am leaving out in this long jumble of thoughts and happenings???

Hooked on “Game of Thrones” TV series (Andy has / is reading the books, I am not). We just finished Season 1. We don’t have HBO, so have to wait to get Season 2… Yikes.

I will begin updating this more (I promise) so my thoughts won’t be so random. Here are a few photos for now:

Andy bought a 50 cent mustache out of a vending machine at Safeway to keep us all entertained:

I have not been blogging much lately because I feel like there is not much interesting to say. Still pregnant, still working, still have a three year old. Nothing’s changed

Shauna and Winter arrived a few days ago and will be staying for the week — just for a visit. Lily and Winter love to play together, although both suffer from a little healthy jealousy at times This means that Nama and Papa are in town for the week too.

Bend cannot make up its mind weather-wise: snow, sun, hail, sun, wind, wind, snow, sun, wind… We at least see the sun almost everyday, which is nice (and have very little rain).

Our 12-week poker series is going well. Andy is in 1st place and I am tied for 3rd (in the whole points-series). There are 4 weeks left. Gotta be in the top 20 to make the money. We need a few more good nights to seal solid positions. (The tournament takes place every Sunday).

Here are some pictures from today. Lily is 3 and 5 months, Winter is 23 months (she turns two in April)!

As of October 8, Lily is now 3 years old. She is growing so quickly! Here are some quick/fun facts about Lily:

She is obsessed with dresses. And, the dresses must “spin.” If she puts on a dress that doesn’t have a good twirl to it, she gets teary-eyed and says “That’s not a dress, that is just clothes!”

She has started calling Nana “Your mom” when speaking to Andy or calling my parent’s “Your mom” or “Your dad” when speaking to me. She is exploring all of the relationships.

She now sleeps in a Full Size “Big Girl Bed” that my mom bought her for her birthday. Her bed is just as high off of the ground, if not higher, than mine! She is such a big girl, and has Hello Kitty Sheets, which she loves.

We bought some wall decals and decorated her room (and did a little re-arranging), super cute, I think.

She is about 50 pounds, 40.5 inches (doctor said she was average weight for an 8 year old and average height for a 5 year old).

She is completely anti- pooping in the toilet. *Sigh*

She has a great bedtime routine which she loves to do by herself, and with help as needed: potty in the toilet, wash hands, brush teeth, wash face.

She likes to pretend that she is Donkey, I am Fiona, and Andy is Shrek.

Lily LOVES building with legos. We build parks, weddings, stores, libraries, you name it.

She likes to ask if people are girls, boys, ladies or men (distinguishing sex and age).

She knows my phone number and our house address.

Andy made her a mixed CD for her birthday, which include her favorite songs: DJ Got Us Falling In-Love Again (Usher), Rhythm of Love (Plain White T’s), Move Like Jagger (Maroon 5), Forget You (Ceelo Green) Pumped Up Kicks (Foster the People), Just the Way You Are (Bruno Mars) and Rolling in the Deep (Adele)

Some photos, more to come:

Getting Winter and Shauna from the airport late at night. They are both so tired, but happy to see each other!

Matching PJs:

Lily and her baby have matching dresses too:

Lily’s cupcake: Vanilla with sprinkles, gummy bears and coconut (her favorite snacks). The cake in the background is for my Aunt Dianne’s 60th bday, for which we had a mini family reunion! Very fun!

My mom, with her 3 siblings (plus an uncle)

One of the best parts about living in Bend is that everyone wants to come visit you (same thing was true when we were in Vegas). We have had non-stop visitors this summer (family and friends) and it has been wonderful. Bend has so much to offer: shopping, food, recreation, beautiful weather, scenery, outdoor festival/music, farmer’s markets… We have it all.

The Medina’s came to visit (a few times). We were down at Munch N’ Music in Drake Park waiting to hear Big Bad Voodoo Daddy perform, when all of the sudden, an ominous cloud appeared out of nowhere delivering half-dollar sized hail! It was the most insane surprise storm that I have ever been in. And, the hail hurt! (This was in August, too!) Then, the hail turned to rain and we were soaked. It was a flash flood and the water could not drain fast enough. Andy ran to get the car and by the time we all got in it, we were drenched. We were able to laugh about it when we got home, of course, safe and dry.

Here is a picture before the flukey storm:

Munch N’ Music is one of our free Thursday night concerts. The week prior we had listened to Cherry Poppin’ Daddies play.

Another visitor of the summer was Auntie Chelsea. Lily sure had a great time with her. On one of the evenings, we climbed Pilot Butte (one of my favorite this to do with visitors, or just Lily). Here are some pictures from atop the butte.

We have had many more visitors (and we welcome anyone wanting to come). These are just a few that I happened to catch on film!

We went to Las Vegas for a second time this summer in July. We went with the intent of playing some WSOP Events and maybe even the Main Event. The goal was to satellite into the tournament (win seats by playing smaller tournaments). We had made the decision that we would play the Main Event if we could win 2 seats. However, we only won 1 seat… I shouldn’t say we, I should say Andy! Andy won a seat into the Main Event and we were able to sell it for full value and come home with cash in hand. So, even though we didn’t get to play the Main Event this year, it was still a successful run.

And, we of course took my dad to China Poblano (see from Vegas, Take 1) to have the 20 Vegetable Fried Rice and the Guacamole!

I should not that this trip was about a week long! We were able to fly Shauna and Winter out from Connecticut to babysit. Expensive babysitter, but well worth it. Lily and Winter had a great time playing together for the week, and Shauna got to juggle two children.

Well, my dad’s nickname has evolved to Papa. That is what he is called around here thanks to Lily.

Back toward the end of May we celebrated his birthday with a “not-so-surprise” party that we throw him every year. Thanks to the dollar store, there were some funny gifts and some good laughs.

Crazy hats and fake teeth?

This has been a summer of weddings! Well, 3 total for us.

Andy went to Garth and Bonnie’s wedding in June (in Dallas, Texas). I, unfortunately, had to teach so could not attend. Garth and Andy had been good friends since elementary school. And, we had the pleasure of meeting Bonnie when she and Garth came to our wedding!

Andy, Lily and I also attended Kristy and Kenny’s wedding in June! It was a beautiful wedding with perfect weather and Black Butte Ranch right outside of Bend. Kristy, as most people know who read this blog, has been a friend of mine since elementary school. We are so happy for she and Kenny.

And just last weekend, we all attended Melissa and Alan’s wedding in Dallas, Oregon at Beckenridge Vinyard. It too, was a beautiful setting with great weather (although a little hot). I was a bridesmaid and had a great time reuniting most of our elementary school clan to celebrate this day. As I type, Melissa is enjoying her “surprise honeymoon” in Costa Rica for 12 days. Alan planned it all on his own and did not tell Melissa where they were going until their wedding day.

Here is a picture of Lily getting ready for Kristy’s wedding. She wore the same dress at Melissa’s wedding too.

In June, Andy and I got to go (with my dad) down to Las Vegas for a few days. Lily stayed with Nama (my mom).

Poker, poker, poker…. My dad did excellent in the WSOP Seniors Event. He got 22nd out of 3,752 entrants. Amazing!

That was the highlight of our poker trip.

But, we also went to enjoy the good food that Vegas has to offer. Andy and I are wannabe restaurant and food critics. We follow chefs on certain shows (Top Chef, Iron Chef, The Best Thing I Ever Ate, anything on Food Network really). So, we are always looking for new things to try.

Here are some notable things we ate in Vegas:

What: Coffee Macaron
Where: Payard Patisserie in Caesar’s Palace
Why: Chef Wolfgang Puck picked this as “The Best Thing I Ever Ate: Nutty”
Verdict? Delicious.

What: 20 Vegetable Fried Rice
Where: China Poblano in The Cosmopolitan (CityCenter)
Why: A chef chose this as “The Best Thing I Ever Ate: Las Vegas.” We do not know what chef chose this because the episode has not yet aired! We will find out soon.
Verdict? The fried rice was delicious. We also ordered guacamole with fresh, hot, hand-made corn tortillas. The guacamole had a little heat to it and it was amazing.

What: Tempura Alaskan King Crab, Baked Crab Hand Roll, Tempura Vegetables, Braised Kobe Beef Short Ribs
Where: Yellowtail at the Bellagio (executive chef Akira Back)
Why: Chef Beau MacMillan chose the Tempura Alaskan King Crab as “The Best Thing I Ever Ate: With Chopsticks.”
Verdict? It was all amazing and cooked to perfection. The tempura crab and vegetables were light and flavorful. However, the hit of the meal was the Baked Crab Hand Roll. This thing was to-die-for. The sauce inside of the roll was full of flavor and spice. I would go back and just order this roll.

Bad lighting, but this is the tempura king crab and tempura vegetables

This is the to-die-for handroll. We still talk about it:

What: Pizza Margherita
Where: Wolfgang Puck Pizzeria at Crystals (CityCenter)
Why: I was hungry.
Verdict? $14 pizza. Great value for Vegas. Great taste.

What: The Buffet of Buffets. This is a 24-hour unlimited pass to 7 of the Harrah’s Buffets in Vegas. It only costs $45 bucks. This is an unbelievable value and it allows you to try some of the best that Vegas has to offer.

Breakfast was at the Buffet at the Rio: It was OK. Fairly large in size. Classic Vegas buffet.

Lunch was at the Caesar’s Palace Buffet: Much better than it was 5 years ago, when we lived there. In fact, this was one of the best buffets we have been to in a long time.

Dinner was at the Paris Village Buffet: Awful! We were so disappointed, as this used to be our favorite buffet on the strip 5 years ago (and we tried most of them). The dessert station was messy, the meats were not as high quality or cooked as well on the roasting table. We could go on, but bottom line is don’t go there. What used to be Vegas’ best kept food secret, has turned into its shame a la Francia.

Desserts at Paris Buffet. Not what they used to be….. Still disappointed.
