Bad habits…

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

I am going to go out on a limb here and get personal.  I am also going to ask for some blog-reader participation.

I have a bad habit of leaving floss lying around (yes, after I have used it, I know this is gross… It is a “bad habit confession” – don’t hold it against me).

What is your bad habit?

No need for words…

Reality TV

Friday, December 5th, 2008

I love Reality TV – the trashier the better (kind of, not really, ok, I admit it – it is true).

Stuffs:

  • Ever since the day Lily was born she could turn herself from her back to her side.  She must sleep on her side to be happy.  Amazing that she could always turn herself.
  • Andy weighed Lily today on a bathroom scale – 13 pounds (clothed)
  • On Jan 2 I have to take Lily in for her big appointment.  This is where she will get many shots – it will break my heart.
  • On Lily’s two month birthday (Dec 8), I have agreed to put Lily in her bassinet next to the bed and join Andy back in the bed.  We will see if I can do it!
  • Lily’s eyes are still blue/gray.
  • Lily is beginning to smile a lot more and track things (especially mommy).  She is also laughing in her sleep and it is the most wonderful sound in the world.
  • Lily is 58 days old!
  • I am doing well on my mission to lose 25 pounds by April 8.
  • Have you read Twilight?  Should I?

5pm & 9:30pm

Friday, December 5th, 2008

At 5pm:  Lily goes poop.  Every night.  Once a day at 5pm.  If she is even off by minutes, it is rare!  The best part about this?  Andy gets home from work at 5:15… perfect time to change his first diaper of the day!

At 9:30pm:  Lily gets fussy and wants to go to bed.  She cries and is fussy fussy fussy.  Not hungry, just tired.  It takes about 5 minutes to calm her down.  You know what?  I think she might be teething.  It is very early for her to be teething, but possible.  She is drooling a lot (out of nowhere) and she has started blowing bubbles.  She sometimes likes the bottle in her mouth because the nipple is cold and I think she just likes the way it feels on her gums…  Could it be possible?  Is she teething already?

All About Me

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

So I took some time to make a list of my likes and dislikes.  Not your typical list: “I like friends and family” and “I dislike world hunger”, but a list about those little things that make us unique.

Try it sometime.  This is a great way to learn about yourself and share with others.  It is also very cathartic.

Here are my lists – I will continue to add to them as things come up.

Likes:

Andy's New Hero

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Andy has fallen inlove with the book: The 4-Hour Workweek and its author, Timothy Ferriss.  It can really make us re-think our priorities!  Read further:

Here is an excerpt from the book that Andy shared with me:

“An American businessman took a vacation to a small coastal Mexican village on doctor’s orders.  Unable to sleep after an urgent phone call from the office the first morning, he walked out to the pier to clear his head.  A small boat with just one fisherman had docked, and inside the boat were several large yellowfin tuna.  The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish.

‘How long did it take you to catch them?’ the American asked.

‘Only a little while,’ the Mexican replied in surprisingly good English.

‘Why don’t you stay out longer and catch more fish?’ the American then asked.

‘I have enough to support my family and give a few to friends,’ the Mexican said as he unloaded them into a basket.

‘But… What do you do with the rest of your time?’

The Mexican looked up and smiled.  ‘I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, Julia, and stroll into the village each evening, where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos.  I have a full and busy life, senor.’

The American laughed and stood tall.  ‘Sire, I’m a Harvard M.B.A. and can help you.  You should spend more time fishing, and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat.  In no time, you could buy several boats with the increased haul.  Eventually, you would have a fellt of fishing boats.’

He continued, ‘Instead of selling your catch to a middleman, you would sell directly to the consumers, eventually opening your own cannery.  You would control the product, processing, and distribution.  You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village, of course, and more to Mexico City, then to Los Angeles, and eventually New York City, where you could run your expanding enterprise with proper management.’

The Mexican fisherman asked, ‘But senor, how long will all this take?’

To which the American replied, ’15-20 years, 25 tops.’

‘But what then, senor?’

The American laughed and said, ‘That’s the best part.  When the time is right, you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich.  You would make millions.’

‘Millions, senor?  Then what?’

‘Then you would retire and move to a small coastal fishing village, where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife, and stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos…’”

I've got nothing to do today but smile…

What a family-filled weekend!  Lily met her only living great-grandmother, both of her aunts (Shauna and Chelsea), great aunts, great uncles, first cousins once removed, second cousins… Need to know what those last two mean?

First cousins share the same grandparents.  Lily has no first cousins (this would require Shauna or Chelsea to have children.)

What does “once removed” mean?  This means up or down a generation.  For example:  My cousin would be Lily’s “first cousin once removed”.  So, many of my cousins were present at Thanksgiving dinner – therefore Lily met many of her first cousins once removed!

What is a second cousin?  Second cousins share the same great-grandparents.  My cousin’s children are Lily’s second cousins.  Lily met one of her second cousins (Cole) this weekend.

This is the American way.

The Chinese Way:  My cousins are considered to be Lily’s aunts and uncles (since they are a generation above her).  Anyone in her generation is considered to be her cousin.  A much simpler system!

Hope everyone else had a great Thanksgiving too!

Life is much easier now that Andy bought mommy and baby a second car!  Last week we bought a 2004 Honda Pilot.  It is amazing!  We bought it through an auction held by OSU Federal Credit Union (Andy’s work).  This car is great – it has so much room for Lily and all of her gear!  Also, I don’t have to wake up at 7am and get Lily ready to take Andy to work if I want to have a car for the day, nor do I have to rely on my father to graciously take me around town to run my errands!

What else is new?

  • I no longer have an Inspire Tutoring office on campus – we decided to move out to save the money.
  • I am now a Costco member.
  • I have deposited my tax return into an investment account so that I can start stock trading.
  • I still love TV – it is a bad addiction!
  • Lily is starting to smile and laugh!  She is beautiful.
  • Andy and I just bought new wireless headpieces to use with our phones.
  • I have a goal to lose 25 pounds by April 8 (Lily’s 6 month birthday).  This will encourage me to eat healthier!  I will keep you posted on progress.  I need all of the support I can get.
  • Our website traffic is down 23% – come on guys!  Actually this is probably my fault, due to not posting pictures and things that people are interested in.
  • My friend, Melissa, is moving home and will be home to meet Lily in a few days!
  • Our cat is VERY jealous of the baby.

Baby is sleeping and it is nice to be able to sit down on the computer and play.  I know that I should be working or getting something done, but you wouldn’t be reading this post if I did that!
